Camp Oven Bannock Recipe

Here is just a very simple and easy to make recipe. You only need four basic ingredients and just one bowl or any container to rinse. This recipe is usually the kids’ favourite because it is tasty, nutritious, nourishing, and fun to prepare on a stick over the campfire or a camp oven. It can also be cooked in a skillet or pot. The bannock can certainly be a meal on its own.



2 – 3 cups of flour
1 – 2 Tablespoon/s of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt (may be optional)
2 – 3 Tablespoons of oil, butter or even a lard
2/3 cup of warm water


Combine all the ingredients except the water in a bowl or any container.

Mix them using your fingers until it is crumbly.

Add in the water slowly and mix up until the dough feels soft. Keep working on the dough until it holds together.

Now, do not add some more water!

You take a small handful and wrap it all around the end of a (green-colored or any) stick like that of a marshmallow roast.

Simply knead it so that it stays on together.

Finally, cook it over the charcoals for around 10 to 12 minutes while you rotate it so it can be cooked evenly.

Wow, at last! You can munch on it as is or you can add on a little bit of jam or honey. Yummy!!!
